General:
Biennial herb from a slender taproot; stems 30-110 cm tall, erect, branched, with starlike hairs.

Leaves:
Basal leaves oblanceolate, entire, 3-5 cm long, slender-stalked; stem leaves appressed-ascending, short-stalked to unstalked and reduced upward; grey with starlike hairs.

Flowers:
In simple to compound racemes; flower stalks slender, erect, 5-10 mm long; petals white, deeply bilobed, 4-6 mm long; sepals hairy, not persistent, 2-3 mm long.

Fruits:
Elliptic silicles, erect, 5-7 mm long, about half as broad, moderately inflated; styles persistent, 2-3 mm long; seeds 3-7 per chamber, in 2 rows, lightly honeycombed and narrowly wing-margined.

Habitat / Range

Dry fields and waste places in the steppe and montane zones; frequent in SC and SE BC; introduced from Eurasia.
